this is golden gram. van asked me to let you know how things are going. first off, portland is a great city. second, our van was broken into in broad daylight in downtown portland. the thieving robber wasn’t very good, but still got some good stuff. there’s always more stuff, we’re getting over it. third, i’m taking lots of pictures. actually, i’m taking a picture of everything i eat on flickr. here’s a link

we’ve been gearing up for the next leg of tour.. this one will take us all over the fine united states and into canada.. a lot of the dates are with sea wolf, but we’re also playing a lot of headlining shows…

the weather has been nothing but beautiful here in california.. (and it was in europe too).. and its sad to see summer go.. but we’re all really looking forward to being on the road in support of threadbare.

EUROPE UPDATE

hey everybody! we are in leicester england right now.. which isn’t pronounced “Ly-Chester” like i’ve been saying until i got here. been over here 5 days or so.. but still only played 2 shows.. flew from SFO to berlin with a layover in nyc. got to berlin at 10am or so on the 12th.. recovered the rest of the day from jetlag.. the 13th was press all day long.. did not miss that part of the album cycle thats for sure.. but did meet some very nice people.. its just hard when you are still 9 hours off the time zone. then the next day, we traveled to the haldern festival and had a great time there. the festival was really cool.. there was a big lake that people were swimming in.. and the weather has been AMAZING. the next day, we travelled all day to england.. we were actually in 5 different countries in one day.. starting in germany, … did holland, belgium, france, and england. wowzer. yesterday we played the summer sundae weekender festival here in leicester and it was fantastic! got to see bon iver, which of course was amazing.. and hung out with those dudes afterwards and talked about normal tour talk (for example, how one would go about strangling a kangaroo with their penis… yay tour!). ….. now, i am chilling in the hotel here.. lobby call is noon and we’re off to manchester for a show with jason and co. the papercuts at the night and day. and staying with the lovely bernie.. tomorrow in london is sold out.. but our next london show will be announced soon (if you google it, you can probably find it already).. also.. gram is doing a darn good job of bloggin about the tour himself over at http://www.theowlmag.com/features.asp?id=482. talk soon! love, van

well… as you may or may not know.. cambria is supposed to return back to california today after a month and a half of baking her ass off in larsen bay, alaska. BUT the weather is suuuuppppeerrr shitty right now.. and she is on weather hold. gale force winds, pouring rain, and low dense fog. .. tough for a small little plane to get through. she has to go from larsen bay to kodiak, kodiak to anchorage, anchorage to seattle, seattle to san francisco. oi. we have a wedding to go to on the 8th.. back up the bay for practice and leave for europe on the 11th. but first she needs to just get home!

In addition to that news.. we’ve redesigned the Myspace.. and we’re thinking that we’re getting somewhere on unlocking the Port O’Brien facebook, which has been a bit of a nightmare.

Still practicing hard and waiting for cambria to come back.. which could be tomorrow, although there is pretty gnarly weather, and flights out of kodiak have been rare lately.

Well.. this has been an interesting month in the world of port o’brien.  Cambria got a job offer to go to Larsen Bay in Alaska to retain her baking position from late june to early august.  She’s been doing well.. working about 16 hours a day (sometimes more!)… and trying to stay away from the Kodiak bears.  she’ll have plenty of stories and pictures once she gets back.. and we’ll post them right here.  Ryan took an epic trip over to the east coast with some friends.. and among other things.. went fishing with some rednecks (“the best way to catch some bass is to kill a raccoon and hang it up from that tree that hangs over the lake, and let the maggots get to it and drip all into the lake and then go back there in the morning and you’ll catch em like crazy”), and took a tour of fenway.  I‘ve been floating around between Cambria, the Bay, and a few days in LA… been spending time with friends, and working on some port o’projects.  Its really exciting to start work on a new album.. and as this summertime comes to an end.. we’ve been preparing for the rest of the epic tour year.  We leave for a euro tour 8/11 .. then hop right back on the road.. details of that coming soon!  we’ll keep you posted!
